An outline investment case for systems and staff to present to your board
A benchmark of your department against regional peers
Practical lessons from peers on BPM7, SNA 2025 and data platforms
A peer network of statistics leaders across Anglophone and Lusophone Africa
Who Should Attend
Open to all qualifying staff, particularly: Heads of Statistics Departments, Deputy Directors of Statistics, Chief Data Officers, Heads of Research & Statistics Divisions.
Why This Course Matters
Strategic Direction
Heads of statistics rarely get time away from release deadlines to think about strategy. The retreat gives you that space, and a structured route to a clear set of priorities for your department.
Peer Exchange
Learning how peers handled BPM7 migration, data platforms or staff turnover saves you repeating their mistakes. Bilingual delivery brings Lusophone and Anglophone central banks into one conversation.
A Stronger Board Case
Statistics budgets compete with every other priority at board level. A sharper, evidence-based investment case helps you secure the systems and staff your department needs to deliver.
Programme
Day 1 am
The changing landscape for central bank statistics
You will review the forces reshaping central bank statistics, including BPM7 and SNA 2025, new data sources and rising user demands, and benchmark your department against regional peers.
Day 1 pm
Data strategy, governance & modernising production
You will compare approaches to data governance, integrated data platforms and automation, and identify the modernisation steps that would make the biggest difference in your department.
Day 2 am
Leading people, skills & inter-agency partnerships
You will explore how to recruit, develop and retain statistical talent, and how to strengthen data-sharing agreements with national statistics offices, ministries and supervisors.
Day 2 pm
Priorities, the board case & a regional agenda
You will set out your department's top priorities for the next three to five years, rehearse the investment case for your board and agree areas for continued regional peer cooperation.
Standards & Faculty Benchmark
UN Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics
The UN principles on independence, quality and confidentiality that anchor statistical leadership.
IMF BPM7 & SNA 2025
The updated international standards for external and national accounts that departments must adopt.
UNECE Generic Statistical Business Process Model
The GSBPM reference model for describing and modernising statistical production processes.
The UN principles, BPM7 and SNA 2025, and the GSBPM set the agenda your department will be measured against for the next decade. Framing your strategy in their terms makes it easier to justify to your board and to coordinate with peers and the IMF.
