About This Event
“A new trustee is liable from the first meeting, not from the first training.”
A foundation programme for newly appointed trustees and administration officers. It covers trustee duties and induction, the record-keeping and benefit calculation work that scheme administration rests on, remittance obligations, and the digital member services now expected as standard.
What You'll Explore
A trustee induction pack for your scheme
An administration process manual covering records, benefits and remittance
A data quality checklist for member records
A benefit calculation worked example set for each scheme type
A member self-service improvement plan
Who Should Attend
Open to all qualifying staff, particularly: Newly Appointed Trustees, Administration Officers, Scheme Secretaries, Member Services Staff.
Why This Course Matters
Trusteeship From Day One
Cover the duties, powers and liabilities a trustee carries from the first meeting, including what to read, what to ask and what to minute. New trustees leave able to contribute rather than observe for their first year.
Administration That Reconciles
Work through member records, contribution reconciliation, benefit calculation and remittance deadlines, the four places where administrative error turns into member loss and supervisory findings.
Digital Member Services
Assess member portals and self-service tools on the outcomes that matter: accurate balances, faster claims and fewer queries. Members judge a scheme by the statement they can see, not by the fund's returns.
Programme
Day 1
Trustee orientation: duties, powers and liabilities
You will cover the legal duties of a trustee, the limits of delegated authority, and the reading and questioning habits that make a new appointee effective within a quarter rather than a year. Sessions cover the trust deed, the role of each adviser, board papers and what must be minuted, and where a trustee carries personal liability from the very first meeting.
Day 2
Member records, contributions, benefits and remittance
You will reconcile contributions against member records and trace the breaks that turn into member loss, then calculate benefits across scheme types. The afternoon works through statutory remittance deadlines, the penalties and reporting that follow a late payment, and the data quality controls that keep records clean between valuations.
Day 3
Digital member services and induction pack defence
You will review member portal design and self-service processes, deciding which queries should be automated and which need a person, and what a member statement must show to be trusted. You then defend a trustee induction pack and an administration process manual for your own scheme before an expert panel.
Standards & Faculty Benchmark
RBA, URBRA & SSRA guidelines

- ☑You run or supervise scheme administration
- ☑Your scheme carries a backlog of member data errors
Good to Know
