About This Event
“Retirement fails more often on planning than on the size of the pot.”
A pre-retirement programme covering the financial and personal transition out of employment. It compares annuities with income drawdown, works through estate planning and wills, and addresses the health and identity questions that determine whether a well-funded retirement is actually a good one.
What You'll Explore
A personal retirement cash-flow plan with income options priced
Completed benefit nomination forms and an estate planning checklist
A side-by-side comparison of annuity and drawdown outcomes
A post-retirement medical cover plan
A pre-retirement curriculum HR can run for the next cohort
Who Should Attend
Open to all qualifying staff, particularly: HR Directors, Pre-Retirees, Scheme Administrators, Member Services Officers.
Why This Course Matters
Income Structured Properly
Compare annuities and income drawdown on the terms that matter to a member: guaranteed income, longevity risk, inflation protection and what is left for dependants. Members leave able to choose rather than accept the first quotation they are shown.
Transition Planned, Not Endured
Address the health, routine and identity changes retirement brings, alongside the finances. Schemes that prepare members for the non-financial side see fewer distressed withdrawals and fewer disputes in the first year.
Wealth That Transfers Cleanly
Put wills, nominations and estate arrangements in order so benefits reach the intended dependants without dispute. Unsigned nominations are the single most common cause of contested death benefits.
Programme
Day 1
Retirement income options: annuities and income drawdown
You will price annuity and drawdown options side by side for real member profiles, comparing guaranteed income, longevity protection, inflation exposure and residual value for dependants. Sessions cover how annuity rates are set, what drawdown demands of a member's discipline, the blended approaches available locally, and the questions to ask before accepting the first quotation offered.
Day 2
Financial structuring, health cover and lifestyle planning
You will build a retirement cash-flow plan covering lump sum use, tax treatment, outstanding debt and the sequencing decisions that determine how long income lasts. The afternoon examines medical cover after employment ends, the cost of private cover at older ages, and the practical planning that keeps health spending from consuming retirement income.
Day 3
Psychological transition, wealth transfer and estate planning
You will work through the routine, purpose and relationship changes retirement brings, and the preparation that helps members arrive ready rather than adrift. The day closes with nominations completed, a basic will structure drafted, and the estate arrangements set out so benefits reach the intended dependants without dispute.
