A personal leadership plan linked to your role and team priorities
Who Should Attend
Open to all qualifying staff, particularly: Directors and Deputy Directors, Heads of Division, Senior Economists, Senior Supervisors, Finance and Treasury Managers, Senior Policy Advisers.
Why This Course Matters
Macro-Financial Fluency
Senior roles demand fluency beyond your own speciality, from policy transmission to balance-sheet risk. Leaders who understand the whole picture contribute more credibly in committee and challenge assumptions sooner.
Judgement Under Pressure
Financial shocks compress decision time and raise the stakes of every call. Structured practice in crisis decision-making helps you act quickly without losing sight of the institution's mandate.
Communicating Policy
How a decision is explained can matter as much as the decision itself. Leaders who communicate clearly to boards, markets and the public reinforce credibility and reduce policy uncertainty.
Programme
Day 1
The macro-financial landscape & your leadership role
You will review monetary policy transmission, inflation dynamics and external-sector pressures in African economies, and assess your own leadership strengths against the demands of senior policy roles.
Day 2
Financial stability & the central bank balance sheet
You will analyse systemic risk indicators, macroprudential tools and the central bank balance sheet, including how reserve, lending and liquidity operations shape financial and reputational risk.
Day 3
Crisis leadership & decision-making
You will lead a team through a simulated banking and currency stress scenario, making decisions with incomplete information and reviewing how governance, escalation and coordination held up.
Day 4
Policy communication & leadership plan
You will prepare and deliver a policy briefing to a mock board and press panel, then build a personal leadership plan linking your macro-financial learning to your role and team priorities.
Standards & Faculty Benchmark
Basel Core Principles (BCP)
The Basel Core Principles for Effective Banking Supervision frame the financial stability sessions.
IMF Macroprudential Policy Framework
IMF guidance on macroprudential policy and toolkits informs the systemic risk and tools content.
PAC Leadership Competencies Framework
PAC's six-competency framework structures the leadership self-assessment and personal plan.
Senior officials are expected to reason about policy in the language used by the IMF and Basel Committee. Benchmarking the content against those frameworks means the judgement you practise here maps directly onto the discussions you lead in committee and with external partners.
Is This Right for You?
- ☑You are moving from a technical role into senior leadership
- ☑You sit on, or brief, policy or management committees
- ☑Your institution wants leaders fluent beyond their own speciality
Good to Know
Pitched at officials moving into or already holding senior roles; a working knowledge of economics or finance helps, but deep modelling skills are not required. You leave with a crisis-simulation debrief, a tested policy briefing and a personal leadership plan.
The Bottom Line
Return fluent in the macro-financial issues your institution faces, and ready to lead the room when they come to a head.
